The Roma educational incubator in Novo mesto
Day-care centre Brežice
In the framework of the Roma educational incubator in Novo mesto, the day-care centre “Brezje” is organized. It is located in the premises of the kindergarten Pikapolonca in Brezje, and is open from Monday till Friday from 1.30 till 5 p.m. The programme is divided into two parts. During the first part (from 1.30 p.m. till 3 p.m.) school assistance is given, while in the second part (from 3 p.m. till 5 p.m.) group activities are taking place. The aim of the programme is to establish a good, daily contact between Roma children and the assistants of the educational incubator, as well as to organize different activities, which are supposed to increase human, social and cultural capital, as well as to create positive social relationships. Furthermore the programme aims at a greater inclusion into the school system, which is why an important part of it is devoted to school assistance, help with homeworks and learning the Slovene language. The programme is attended by 48 Roma children.
Activities, carried out in 2011
In the period between April and June 2011, 36 creative workshops were carried out, one artistic workshop, 57 sports- and socializing workshops, 21 social workshops (18 of which were entitled “learning by playing”), 8 music and dance workshops (hip hop), three workshops of Roma folklore, a meeting with scouts, 4 photography workshops with Boštjan Pucelj, 2 workshops about human rights according to the KOMPAS method, 8 relaxation workshops, 1 puppet-theatre workshop (“The best gipsy musician”) and a travel report session about India. The school assistance comprised 626,3 hours and was carried out by 13 assistants. The total amount of hours needed for these activities are 1.295,30. Furthermore we had 28 hours of consultations for six parents.
In the time from January to March 2011, 41 creative workshops took place, two artistic workshops, 34 sports- and socializing workshops, 27 social workshops (21 of which were entitled “learning by playing”), 14 music and dance workshops, 6 meetings with scouts, 4 photography workshops with Boštjan Pucelj and three times an animated cartoon was shown to children. The school assistance comprised 578,3o hours and was carried out by 8 assistants. The total amount of hours needed for these activities was 1.295,30. Furthermore we had 34 hours of consultations for seven parents.
